Kent Harmless

kent and rhonda harmlessWe both became Christians during the same week; I (Kent) in Tucson, Arizona, and Rhonda in New Lexington, Ohio. We sensed calls to full-time Christian service and enrolled in Circleville Bible College (Ohio), where we met and were later married.

During the 1980s and 1990s, we served for 15 years as missionaries in Laredo, Texas. I did vehicle and building maintenance and new church construction in addition to directing projects for visiting work teams. Rhonda served as a secretary, treasurer, and teacher. We also worked together in evangelism and discipleship ministries.

Currently, we are serving at Escuela El Sembrador in Honduras, Central America.

The above was taken from our conference website.

Yesterday we received the automated message from our Missionary Superintendent to pray for Kent Harmless.  He had suffered a heart attack and was scheduled for emergency surgery late last night (our time).  This morning we received another call informing us he had passed away during surgery.

Our minds immediately question God's timing and will in this tragedy.  How can it be in His plan for a devoted missionary, who was giving his life for God's service, to die?  As humans we question, we try to find a reason, and purpose, a plan.  In God's eyes death is not the end, it is the beginning.  Death is not separation, it is reunion.  He brings His faithful home to be forever with Him.  Kent Harmless is with his Saviour and is experiencing the blessedness and peace of heaven.  We thank God so much for the promise and hope of heaven.

Our church family will be praying for his wife and family.  While Kent is with Jesus, his family must now walk the road of grief and feel the loss of earthly separation.  We pray that God would comfort them and that they would feel His presence close in this time of deep loss. Our hearts go out to the Missions Department and all who were touched by his life.

You have our love, our thoughts and prayers.

Update

We're still here!  We are looking forward to 2013 being blessed and spirit filled.  The church family here at Henderson CCCU have been through some very hard trials this past year.  Our pastor and family lost their oldest daughter to brain cancer on October 23, 2012.  Due to her extended illness most of 2012 was spent caring for her.  The entire church and community have been affected by the loss of Karagen.  In spite of our grief it is our desire to move forward and see what God has in store for us in the New Year.

We are excited to once again be offering Children's Church.  Our pastor's wife, Crystal will be teaching children 11 and under during the Sunday morning message.  This will give the children more lessons and teaching at their age level, as well as allow parents to enjoy the message without their children getting antsy or bored.  Crystal has over 10 years of experience teaching children and homeschooled 4 of her own children for a year.  They will be blessed and if you don't make it to Sunday school then Children's Church is a great alternative.

Pastor Jonathan will also be re-starting Youth night which will begin this month, January 17.  The youth will meet every Thursday evening from 6:30-8:00. Pastor Jonathan enjoyed teaching and reaching the local youth.  The Youth night was very successful but due to his daughter's illness it was not possible for him to continue teaching so  the Youth Night's had to be cancelled.  He is very excited to start connecting with the local Youth and share his passion for Christ.   Light  refreshments will be served followed by a Bible study and activity.  We would love to see any interested young person attend, you won't regret it!

Funeral For Paul Dixon Sr.

We were so sorry to see the passing of our dear friend and fellow brother in Christ, Paul Dixon Sr.  He has been promoted to heaven and God has released him from his suffering.
Funeral services were held today at the Henderson Church of Christ in Christian Union, Monday September 12, 2011 at 1:00pm with graveside service following.  There was a delicious meal served in the Fellowship Hall afterwards.
Brad Dixon and Pastor Jonathan Roberts were both speakers at the funeral.  Brad did a wonderful job preaching the funeral message and we appreciated the thoughts he shared about the hope we can all have of seeing Paul again someday.  Janet Dixon, Bess Sterling and Karen sang a lovely special Baulah Land.  At the end of the service Rev. and Mrs. Votial sang Will the Circle Be Unbroken.
Paul Dixon was a faithful member of our church for many years and has blessed the lives of everyone he knew.  He will be greatly missed, just as he was greatly loved.

  God saw you getting tired
And the cure was not meant to be.
So He put his arms around you
And whispered, "Come to me,"
With tearful eyes we watched you,
And saw you pass away.
Although we loved you dearly,
We could not make you stay.
A golden heart stopped beating,
Hard working hands at rest.
God broke our hearts
To prove to us,
He only takes the best.
From Paul Dixon's Funeral

Small Church Doesn't Mean Small God

Being a small church can sometime's give a  negative impression.  Just because we are small, it doesn't mean our God is.  We often think of all the "small" things and people God used throughout the Bible.  He used David, a young, inexperienced shepherd boy to teach a nation about faith.  He used Mary, a young and innocent girl to bare His precious Son, who it just so happens to have  entered the world as a "small" baby.  He used a "small" boy in the miracle of the loaves and fishes, yes God indeed uses "small" things!
